Soundaloud is an independent local music portal based around the indie/rock/metal/alternative music scene in the Sheffield region, South Yorkshire, UK. Our aim is simple - to provide a one stop shop for all local musicians and people within the music community. Whether you are a fan, a musician or the owner of a local guitar shop, we hope you will find Soundaloud useful.

We are non-profit making website which is maintained as a hobby by members of the Sheffield music community. The site relies on contributions from budding writers who share the same aim of promoting local musical talent.

We started out in 2002, then titled Indie Sheffield, mainly providing a news and gig listing service for indie bands in the area. We rebranded to Soundaloud on New Years Day 2004 where we launched an extensive message board facility and broadened our musical scope to other genres in Sheffield.

Soundaloud grew alongside the thriving Sheffield music scene and at the time we were privileged to witness the emergence of several local bands including Pink Grease, The Long Blondes and of course Arctic Monkeys (to name a few).

In 2005, Soundaloud began hosting monthly showcase events giving new bands their first taste of the gig scene alongside established local live bands.

Also in 2005, we hosted the inaugural Soundaloud Sheffield Music Awards (SSMA’s), which was repeated as our farewell event in 2006. Thousands voted for their favourite local bands, heroes, gigs and songs which ended in the winners being presented with gold discs at a mini ‘Brit Award’ style presentation evening.

After taking a backseat from the local music scene in the summer of 2006, Soundaloud relaunched in early 2008.
